CASE STUDY: AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTION FOR A NEW SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT
The construction of Cleeve Meadow School in Sidcup required a new permanent electricity supply to the development. The school provides education for 120 pupils aged 11-19 with moderate learning difficulties.
Alongside 12 teaching rooms, the school also offers an open-plan library, IT facilities and a music department with a performing arts centre.
The school required a 332KVA load, delivered as a bulk LV metered supply.
The Point of Connection granted by UKPN involved a road crossing outside the development, but the site was adjacent to the existing Cleeve Park School, which meant the road was used by parents and children during the school run.
The Installation comprised a 500kVA substation in a GRP enclosure at the site boundary, followed by an extensive LV cable run to the intake position in the client’s plant room.
The Rock Team were flexible to the onsite work requirements and scheduled the laying of LV cable prior to the HV cable to prevent delays to the site construction.
Additional earthing was required to reach UKPN’s specifications and this was achieved with extra rods.
