CASE STUDY: ELECTRICAL CONNECTION FOR A NEW CARE HOME
June 1, 2020
Following the sale of a partially constructed site, the new developer requested help with the electrical connection.
The care home required a 200KVA bulk supply which would terminate in a Heavy Duty Cut Out within the building.
A High Voltage (HV) point of connection was granted by Western Power Distribution (WPD) on the opposite side of the road. The substation was located to minimise the HV cable run and to avoid crossing the site entrance.
The Rock Team installed a 315kVA substation in a GRP at the site boundary so there would be easy access for WPD and the adopting IDNO.
A bulk supply was installed in the client’s meter room.
Whilst the offsite cable route was a short stretch across the road, care was taken to minimise disruption to the local properties with driveways in the proximity of the excavations.
Darren Huxley, Project Manager commented: "It is great when we can offer small substations on developments that require lower loads and get it adopted by an IDNO. It meets the client's needs at a competitive price for them."
