L’ Avenir House in Bracknell was a three-storey, former office headquarters which was being redeveloped into 69 apartments, with plans for a further extension to 115. The development required the existing single supply to converted into individual supplies for each of the new apartments, often termed a Building Network Operator (BNO) installation.
The new meters were required within a basement communal room, in which space was extremely tight. This provided challenges at the design stage.
* The existing supply to the building was rerouted into a new LV panel, from which a series of MSDBs provided individual metering for the apartments and landlord supply.
* The Rock Team supplied and installed over 500 meters of service cable to provide each apartment with their own meter.
* In total, fully-metered supplies for the initial phase of 69 apartments were provided, with cut-outs for the additional phase which awaited planning permission. This would allow a swift energisation for the second phase, when required.
Dan Wooding, Rock's Project Manager, commented: "There were challenging site conditions, including the confined basement location for the communal meter room. However, the client was really impressed by our tidy, neat installation.”
