CASE STUDY: REDEVELOPMENT OF THE OLD ALLIED BAKERY FACTORY
The former Allied Bakeries in Orpington was being redeveloped into two distinct land parcels. On one site, Allied Bakeries will continue operations; The other will be for future commercial redevelopment.
The bakery site, which baked its last loaf in 2005, was fed by an existing HV substation. However, this existing substation was located on land which would be relinquished. Allied Bakeries required a new supply within their new land boundary.
* A single 400amp Heavy Duty Cut Out (HDCO) was required to provide a 138kVA supply.
* The Rock Design Team promptly redesigned the location of the HDCO to meet UKPN’s requirements, alongside scheduling the Council permissions to meet the developer’s installation programme.
* The Rock Team also liaised with UKPN to handle the disconnection of the existing supply, followed by the prompt connection of the new supply due to the imminent habitation by tenants.
Reece James, Rock's Operations Director, commented: “This was a great opportunity to work on an iconic site and prepare it ready for the next step of it development.”
