Rock’s youngest team member marks first year in employment

Rock Power Connections’ youngest team member, Reed James, has recently marked his first 12 months of employment.

For Reed, this is an incredible achievement, as aside from balancing his studies with part-time employment, Reed has Asperger’s syndrome which typically causes difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication.

As the son of Rock Power Connections’ Operations Manager, Reece James, Reed joined the Rock team in an administration capacity to not only help with personal development - where forming new relationships with members of the Rock team has enabled him to improve social skills - but also in professional development, where Reed has learnt both administration and operational skills that he can transfer to future employment.

Kev Sankar, Commercial Director for Rock Power Connections and Uncle to Reed, explained: “At Rock Power Connections we pride ourselves on creating a positive working environment, where we ensure all of our staff members feel supported in their roles. In employing Reed, we not only wanted to provide him with an initial employment opportunity where we knew he would be supported in his role, but also wanted to help him in developing transferable workplace skills, whilst helping him overcome or cope with difficulties in social interaction and communication.”

“Over the last 12 months we have noticed a real difference in Reed, and as a team look forwards to working with and supporting him as he maintains his role at Rock, whilst finalising his studies.”

Reed is currently studying at Worcester Sixth form College with a goal to secure a place studying his real passion, History and Politics at University.

On discussing his role and experience in working at Rock Power Connections, Reed said:

“Since starting my position at Rock Power Connections just over a year ago, I have gained employability, general experience and communication skills. I have also gained skills in transferring data on excel spreadsheets, laminating, photocopying and other administrative skills.”

“I enjoy working and interacting with everyone there like members of my family, John and Charlotte, for example, as well as just generally having a job and earning a living wage. I like working with members of my family but have also enjoyed working with the other members of staff too.”

Reed works with 70 Rock team members from its headquarters in Worcester. Founded in 2012, Rock Power Connections is now one of the UK’s leading Independent Connections Providers [ICP], specialising in the design and installation of new and upgraded electricity connections to business, industry and commercial properties nationwide.
