Introducing Rock Clean Energy

Worcestershire business Rock Power Connections plans for exciting times ahead after announcing the incorporation of a new venture – Rock Clean Energy. After experiencing strong consistent growth in the electrical connections market, the Rock Directors are now looking to battery storage in the next chapter of expansion.

Rock Clean Energy will focus on the installation of large-scale, battery storage systems designed to store electrical energy when there is an excess of production for later release when demand exceeds generation and also provide a viable alternative to diesel for back-up supplies.

Advances in battery systems coupled with rapidly falling technology costs are making grid-scale installations a viable proposition. The network operators seek to balance supply and demand whilst making the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner generation, such as wind, solar and hydro.

Director Kev Sankar, thinks this is the perfect time for Rock Power Connections to create this new venture.

We have had four solid years of growth working on the distribution network, building primary substations and connecting new energy supplies to the grid.

With the creation of Rock Clean Energy comes a new Director, Chris Roberts. Heavily involved in the development of the renewable energy industry since 2001, Chris developed the industry’s quality benchmark - the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) before founding Poweri – a photo voltaic installer on a domestic, commercial and solar farm scale.

Last year, Chris was the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor on Tesla’s first, grid-scale, Powerpack installation adjacent to a solar farm in Somerset. Together, the solar and battery installation has the capacity to provide electricity onto the network sufficient to power over 500 homes.

Chris explains,

Battery storage offers huge potential. On a grid scale, it provides a cost-effective way to decarbonise the UK’s energy supply by balancing the intermittent generation from renewables.

But there is also a massive opportunity on a commercial scale for organisations with big power demands which need uninterruptible supplies, such as manufacturers or hospitals.

Rock Clean Energy will operate as a separate business to Rock Power Connections – focusing on the design and installation of battery storage systems - but will benefit from the wealth of experience, skills and accreditations already established within the Rock Team.
