Rock Named as Rising Star of the Midlands
Worcester-based, electrical engineering specialists – Rock Power Connections - is celebrating recognition as “Rising Star” in the UK Private Business Awards for the entire Midlands region.

Founded by three brothers-in-law in 2012, Rock Power Connections embodies the ethos of a family
business within a vigorous growth strategy. Between them the directors hold a diverse and complementary skill set which has been a magical combination to achieving a turnover expansion of over 50% for the past two years.
Finance Director, Matt sums up the celebratory spirit of the award: “We’re ecstatic! We’re deeply proud of the teams’ achievements; it’s always great to win repeat business from happy clients, but to be recognised by a national award takes it to the next level.
“We were flattered to be initially nominated by Price Waterhouse Coopers – a nationally leading accountancy firm - but to be the Midlands’ Qualifier is tremendous.”
Rock Power Connections are experts in providing new electrical connections to businesses and industry across the country, as well as working with the Distribution Network Operators to upgrade the high voltage electricity network. Operations Director, Reece explains “The business is really diversifying. On a daily basis, the team are working on multiple substation sites throughout the country: Anything from constructing new high voltage 132KVa substations to installing new electrical connections to retail parks or industrial estates.”
Founded on the core principle of nurturing growth through an engaged workforce, the company now boasts a team of 28 motivated, electrical engineers who have progressed through a robust training programme. The Directors believe it is the strength and dedication from the Rock Team that have facilitated the growth rate.
Commercial Director, Kev emphasises how having a directly-employed workforce and an active strategy to retain them allows the company to differentiate itself from competitors:
“Given that many competitors rely on outsourcing or using agencies to complete projects, retaining skills and experienced staff offers benefits to our clients: We can guarantee consistency in quality as we can control the training and on-site experience our workforce undertake. We offer a flexible approach to clients as our team has a broad skill base.”
As Rock Power Connections propels through its fourth year of trading, the business is really celebrating this accolade. The Rising Star award now occupies pride of place in the office after doing a tour of the substation sites.
