Switching substations for the seaside, Emma is heading for the Pembrokeshire coast this weekend to complete an epic swim-cycle-run endurance event to raise money for a local charity.
Perhaps not the best helmet for the bike: Emma gears up for The Long Course
Taking on The Long Course, Emma will attempt a 2.4 mile dip in the sea (Friday), a 112 mile cycle sportive (Saturday) and a 26.2 marathon (Sunday). This is the second instalment of Emma’s charity challenge after completing her first triathlon – IRONMAN 70.3 – a few weeks back.
Emma explained “It is a perfect excuse to raise money for a brilliant cause. I can’t swim and I can’t cycle so it seemed like the right scale of challenge to ask people to dig deep.”
Emma is raising money for Worcestershire Parent and Carers’ Community (WPCC); a local charity close to the heart of Rock Power Connections. By organising family days out and projects for teenagers, WPCC supports families across the county who have a child with a disability or additional need.
Project Assistant Sharon said “It’s great to support a local charity which is very close to my heart personally. Emma is an inspiration to us all not just sitting around eating chocolate biscuits and actually doing something. The Rock team will be keeping their fingers crossed. ”
Whilst no stranger to mountain marathons, Emma has been on a huge learning curve since realising she could only swim 10 metres of front crawl back in October.
“My swim coach just shrugged his shoulders and asked ‘how long do we have?’, but after spending hours plugging away in the pool and in lakes, I just about stand a chance of making it”.
The biggest challenge facing Emma this weekend is the time cut-offs. “If I don’t hit certain distances within a certain time, I get stopped and I’m not allowed to finish. I’m going to swim, pedal and run like fury and hope conditions are kind to me.
And I’m hoping for a sea current to take the jellyfish to another shoreline for the weekend.”
You can sponsor Emma, by donating to Worcestershire Parent and Carer’s Community at her MyDonate page.
No matter how big or small, all donations will be massively appreciated by Emma and go directly to supporting the amazing projects that WPCC run.
