Case study

URS – Car showroom in Sunderland

Appointed by RT consultants to design and build a high voltage power supply to their new car showroom in Sunderland.

The overview of the challenge:

The remit was to design and build a new electricity network that met the client’s needs in terms of capacity, quality and value for money.

Key to this was building strong working relationships with all stakeholders to ensure that we delivered this project on time, on budget and to the highest quality standards.

Our Approach

Initiating a site meeting with the developer, we talked through the plans and discussed timescales. The meeting was designed to give everyone the opportunity to express their needs, expectations and make any changes or adjustments. Our client was issued with a program of works and lines of communication between us, them and their developer were kept open and frequent throughout the project.

Another route was suggested for the HV cables to avoid the third-party land and helped negotiate an access easement on behalf of the client.  Out of hours working also helped speed up the connection.

The Result

The project involved more complex legals, with easements having to be granted. However, we managed to get the showroom connected in time for the opening day deadline and overall, the client was extremely happy with the service we provided, giving us a top score on our customer satisfaction survey.

“From a build perspective the whole process ran smoothly. We encountered a few issues with land rights, which even though were out of our control, were still a frustration. However, despite this, the connection went ahead on time and the client was very happy with our overall professionalism and quality of work.”
