Case study

Property conversion required new LV connection

A house with an existing supply was converted into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO), requiring a new electrical connection from the local Low Voltage (LV) network.

After securing design approval from the network operator, UKPN then requested further design changes putting pressure on the installation timescales. Being located on a small residential street, it was important to communicate to existing residents about the required closure of the footpath to allow for the new connection.

Our Solution

* A single 400amp Heavy Duty Cut Out (HDCO) was required to provide a 138kVA supply.

* The Rock Design Team promptly redesigned the location of the HDCO to meet UKPN’s requirements, alongside scheduling the Council permissions to meet the developer’s installation programme.

* The Rock Team also liaised with UKPN to handle the disconnection of the existing supply, followed by the prompt connection of the new supply due to the imminent habitation by tenants.

“We needed a flexible approach to accommodate UKPN’s change in requirements, whilst ensuring no delays in hitting the energisation date.”
