New YMCA campus in Milton Keynes requires electrical infrastructure

A new YMCA campus in Milton Keynes provides self-contained flats for 199 formerly homeless young people. Built over eight storeys, the development also contains a café, nursery and training rooms for local businesses.

The entire development required 500kVA with a bulk supply for the YMCA and individual three-phase supplies for the ground floor, commercial units.

Whilst the Point of Connection offered by Western Power Distribution was the footway outside the development, the substation was situated in a far opposite corner requiring both HV and LV cables to run around the outside perimeter.

Our Solution

  • The Rock Team installed a supply from an onsite HV point of connection to an internal 1MVA substation. The YMCA was provided with a bulk supply via a 1000A metering unit.
  • An additional cable was pot-ended outside the substation and this will be used for the Temporary Building Supply for the second phase of development.
  • The numerous land-owners presented a complex legal scenario. However, the Rock Team facilitated the coordination of the various solicitors to a successful resolution to ensure that the supply could be energised on time.

“This was an amazing development to be involved with. A smooth installation with the supply energised on schedule.”
