Derby Blue Diamond Garden Centre

The Challenge

Rock were awarded to install the ICP scope of works at the new EV hub at Derby garden centre. Rock liaised with the DNO, installed a new looped HV supply, complete with 500kVA packaged substation, GRP and all HV & LV feeder pillar terminations. The works took place during a very busy festive period where access to the garden centre had to remain open to the public.

Our Approach

It took only 4 weeks to excavate the required areas, build a bunded concrete plinth within a flood risk zone, land a 500kVA packaged Substation & GRP housing, and undertake all required DNO specific civils & terminations. Rock had to undertake the off-site cable installation overnight to keep access into the garden centre open.

The Results

EV users now have another rapid charger destination located conveniently just off the A38.

“I am delighted to express my satisfaction in completing the ICP contestable works at Derby garden centre. This was the 5th HV connection for Mer that Rock have undertaken within 9 months of our working relationship in 2023. It took only 4 weeks to; excavate the required areas, build a bunded concrete plinth within a flood risk zone, land a 500kVA packaged Substation & GRP housing, and undertake all required DNO specific civils & terminations. The first spade in the ground for our scope of works was 20th November and energisation occurred on 20th December… just in time for Christmas! Rock’s ability to produce high quality work within a short timeframe is what we do best with our experienced personnel. “
